I have dark spots on my face. I am considering laser treatment. I have been to two doctors so far: One uses yag and the other fraxile. Which laser is best for dark (sun) spots? Any side effects / issues to consider?
Answer: Which Laser Is Best for Sun Spots? Fraxel and Combo Therapy Resolve Hyperpigmentation Without a photo, I cannot give you a specific answer. Fraxel Re:Pair or Re:Store may be sufficient to resolve your dark spots. You will have a reddened face for two weeks. However, many people who have hyperpigmentation require multiple therapies used in combination to completely resolve their sun spots. Intensed pulse light (IPL), chemical peels, hydroquinone and retinoids can all be helpful. Be sure to consult a board-certified dermatologist who can offer you a number of treatments

Answer: Improving Dark Scars--lasers, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, skin care, sun protection A combination approach would give the most improvement. Dark spots can be improved with a combination of lasers (Fraxel, IPL, Tattoo), Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Treatment for brown lesions It really depends on what is comprising the dark spot your skin type. All of this matters. A photo would be helpful but an in-person consult is the best. There is no one answer. Multiple wavelengths can be used as well as peels, IPL etc. Best of luck!

Answer: Brown Spot Treatment Thanks for your inquiry. The good news is there are so many options for treatment of brown spots. The first would be the most basic skin care including good sunscreen; check the bottle for zinc or titanium. This is more of a prevention regimen than anything. The next step is lightening agents. There are more natural products like Lytera 2.0, but also medications like Hydroquinone. These products treat the brown cells called melanocytes. They take several months to take effect. The next step is light based treatments like IPL (or "photofacial"). This treatment damages the brown cells and they slough off as your skin turns over. This is great for people with dark pigmented spots and light skin, its harder on dark skin with dark spots. The next step is true lasers like Halo or Fraxel. These treatments poke tiny holes in the skin. The skin peels and the brown spots come off with the peeling. This does require a bit of down time, but they are very effective treatments. I would consider meeting with a dermatologist and discussing the type of approach you are comfortable with. How aggressive do you want to treat them? How long do you want to be doing treatment? How much are you comfortable spending?
