Will the tip of my nose ever soften again?

Question

I had open rhinoplasty a little over a month ago and the tip of my nose is rock hard. I can move it from side to side but actually pressing the tip inward is impossible. I even feel uncomfortable kissing my boyfriend now cause 1.everytime I do I feel like my nose is stabbing him and 2. It hurts ME if I’m not SUPER gentle. I just wish my nose would squish and move around like a regular nose again

Dear Realself user,First of all I hope you get well soon and second I would like to inform you that it is very normal your are experiencing this because it is very soon for you to be fully recovered. It usually takes up to a year for the nose to set completely but you will see most change of swelling within 2 months.Best of luck.

You have to give yourself some more healing time.  Your nose and surrounding areas are going to be swollen for a while and you should be consulting the surgeon that performed the procedure. However, give yourself some time before going back in so some of it can subside. It can take up to a year for final results.

It is not uncommon to have a stiff nasal tip after open rhinoplasty, especially if cartilage grafting was performed.  This tends to soften over time as your healing progresses, swelling subsides and scar tissue remodels.  For some individuals it can take up to a year to fully settle after an open rhinoplasty.  While the nose should "soften", it may never be as soft and flexible as it was preoperatively due to grafting, scar tissue, etc.  Be patient though as you are still early on in the recovery process.  Continue to see your surgeon to address any concerns you have.  I wish you the best.
