Under the skin nodules after Accutane?

When I first stared accutane I had a bad flare up with lots of nodules/cysts, my derm put me on prednisone and antibiotcs for 1 mouth , now 90% of my nodules/cysts are gone , but not gone for good , they somehow entered my skin,if i put my hand on my skin and push i can feel it and I have redness on the surface PIH I think..what to do?

Accutane is a great medication for cystic acne. I am not sure how long you have been on the Accutane. Occasionally, patients will get a flare of acne when Accutane is started( acne fulminans), and prednisone can help calm this down. A usual course of Accutane is 4-6 months. If you have been through the typical course and are still having cystic lesions, a second course of Accutane may be helpful. Sometimes starting out with a lower dose can prevent the bad initial flare. I hope this helps. Lana Long, M.D.
