What is rasping and how is it performed? Is rasping similar to closed nasal reduction?

Rasping is the same thing as filing the nose down. It will not make a deviated nose straight however.

Rasping of the bridge is accomplished by files/rasps that are used to shave down the hump across the bridge line. Once a hump is removed,  medial and lateral osteotomies of the nasal bones are most likely  required.  Digital computer imaging would be helpful to understand what can be accomplished with a closed rhinoplasty procedure. A closed nasal reduction involves simple manipulation of the nasal bones back into their normal place immediately after a fracture, and without making any cuts in the nasal bones. Closed reduction is only used in the first couple of weeks after a nasal fracture while the bones are still broken and mobile. Rasping involves shaving down the bone with a rasp. Typically for a healed, crooked nose, osteotomies are required to allow cutting and resetting the crooked bones in the midline. Rasping relates to filling down the nasal bones.  This shaves off tiny layers of bone which allows contouring.  Good luck.
