What is rasping and how is it performed? Is rasping similar to closed nasal reduction?

Rasping of the bridge is accomplished by files/rasps that are used to shave down the hump across the bridge line. Once a hump is removed,  medial and lateral osteotomies of the nasal bones are most likely  required.  Digital computer imaging would be helpful to understand what can be accomplished with a closed rhinoplasty procedure. A closed nasal reduction involves simple manipulation of the nasal bones back into their normal place immediately after a fracture, and without making any cuts in the nasal bones. Closed reduction is only used in the first couple of weeks after a nasal fracture while the bones are still broken and mobile. Rasping involves shaving down the bone with a rasp. Typically for a healed, crooked nose, osteotomies are required to allow cutting and resetting the crooked bones in the midline. Rasping is the same thing as filing the nose down. It will not make a deviated nose straight however.
