Is it okay to sit 2 weeks after BBL?

Question

Will I flatten my butt if I sit? I had to return to work 2 weeks after surgery and it requires me to sit. I don't want to use a bbl pillow for privacy reasons. Thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks for your question.  Every surgeon will have his/her own preferences as to recovery for specific procedures. Postoperatively, no specific position is indicated and we do not have any sitting restrictions.  The pressure caused by sitting is not sufficient to affect viability of the fat cells and so the postsurgical position depends basically on comfort and any other operations that have been performed.

The longer you can go without sitting the better for the long term survival of the fat cells. If you can use avoid direct sitting for longer than two weeks with pillows or cushions of any sort, the better.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno

Brazilian Butt Lift recovery time is dependent on how the patient’s body reacts to the procedure. Patients usually return to work after a week but you should not sit without the use of cushions for at least two weeks and you must wear a compression garment for several weeks after the procedure. You should wait until at least 2 weeks after the procedure to engage in sexual activity. Swelling and discomfort normally fades at six weeks. After about a month you will be mostly healed and you can get a nice idea of the permanent results after around six months.

Great question!  2 weeks is way too early to start sitting.  My usual protocol is 2 weeks of sitting on a pillow, the next two weeks you can begin sitting for 5 minutes only, anything longer than that you will need a pillow.  So a total of 4 weeks minimum of using a pillow.  Yes if you sit too early, not only are you going to kill off the fat cells, but you can shift them in the wrong areas and will not get the nice shape that was created during surgery.Best of luck and hope this information helps!- Dr. Roger Tsai, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon@DrRogerTsai

Every surgeon has a different recovery 
protocol so it is best to talk with your plastic surgeon about what 
he/she recommends for you. With that said, I advise my patients not to 
sit on their rear ends at all for the first week. After then they may 
sit for short periods of time with a pillow under your legs above the 
knee for 8 weeks, it doesn't have to be a special BBL pillow if you don't want to draw attention to it. Being in an office setting, I would take breaks and get up to walk around as much as possible. I would not recommend sitting normally 
without a pillow for 8 weeks.

I recommend that my patients minimize sitting, even with a pillow, for the first two weeks.  If they must sit, every 30 minutes or an hour, they should get up and stand for a few seconds to take the pressure off.   This reduces the chance for fat necrosis. I usually recommend about 6 weeks before sitting without a pillow. My patients can sit after two weeks. For the first two weeks I have them use a BBL  pillow. Essentially, the patient sits on her thighs and keeps pressure off the buttock. #StayBeautiful @RealDrWorldWide
