I had my first full body treatment with Alexandrite candela laser machine and I am wondering what is better to do before my next treatment, shave or trim the hair. I have always been waxing (which I know I must not do now that I started laser treatments) and thus my hair is black but thin so I am wondering if shaving will make sessions more effective by making hair more coarse or trimming is the same. I would like to thank you in advance.
Answer: Laser Hair Removal & Shaving--takes a series of treatments Yes, I recommend shaving the night before or morning of treatment. Keep in mind, it will take a series of treatments and some people need treatments to maintain. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Shaving Before Laser Treatments Yes, it is recommended that you shave before the treatment. Your provider should have given you pre and post treatment instructions. Trimming is not effective and will leave hair too long to treat, you need to shave the day of or night before your treatment. It will take 5-7 treatments usually to get optimal results, and often follow up maintenance treatments.

Answer: Just Keep Shaving... Thanks for your question. You service provider obviously did not give you post-care instructions. First, it will take a series of treatments to reduce your hair production. LHR treatments deliver a burst of energy to the hair follicles that are actively growing. The energy destroys these follicles ability to produce another hair. The hair shafts in those follicles will release and fall out over the next 1-3 weeks. Other dormant hair follicles start producing hair every day. It takes a series of at least 6 treatments to get most the hair growth. In order to avoid surface burns, we have our patients shave before LHR treatments. You must not wax or pluck during LHR treatments. You can shave at any time you wish between treatments.Generally speaking, you should look for a facility where they have a doctor on staff and is usually there to answer questions. Find out what type of machine (laser vs. IPL) they will be using. A properly calibrated laser is usually much more comfortable than an IPL. Using the correct settings for your skin type also makes it more comfortable. Sorry to say, probably the most expensive treatment is probably the best.Best of luck

Answer: Only recommended method is shaving Hey there,Shaving is the only recommended method for keeping yourself hair free in between laser hair removal sessions because it removes only the hair shaft above the skin without disturbing the follicle so that they can be easily targeted during the laser sessions. All the other hair removal methods like waxing, tweezing, threading will remove the entire hair shaft thus disturbing the follicle.Hope this helps.
