Lateral displacement? Why does this keep happening to me?

Question

I had breast implant removal/replace of my 22 year old saline implants back in Sept. of 22. Had CC and lateral replacement with that procedure. Had a revision done on April of this year and now it looks like I have lateral displacement again. Why does this keep happening to me?

Lateral displacement of your old saline implants was likely never addressed in your revision surgery. Typically, the surgeon is concentrating on removing as much scar capsule as possible to avoid recurrent capsular contracture, and not paying attention to pocket size. Frequently the remaining pocket after capsulectomy needs to be closed down with stitches that are reinforced with a resorbable mesh to help contain the new implant in a proper position.

Your tissue may be too thin to prevent being stretched by the implant, and/or your implant is too large and puts too much pressure on your tissue. Going smaller would be best. Mesh may be needed.

If this is a recurrent problem you may benefit from mesh in your next revision. This will keep the repair stable for up to 2 years until the breast heals. I would recommend meeting in person with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

Most likely the issue is the lateral pocket was not corrected or not supported. I would repair with support such as Galaflex mesh
