CoolSculpting aftercare, what will help get the best results?

While some people experience slight pain or swelling after having a CoolSculpting treatment, the majority go right back to their regular routine without taking any special aftercare steps. If you do have pain or discomfort, it should be easily manageable. Rest, eat well and drink plenty of water. You can take over the counter pain medication if necessary. Call your technician if you continue to experience pain. 

The best aftercare for CoolSculpting is to follow each session with Zimmer Z-Wave Radial Pulsed Therapy. This is a treatment your dermatologist can administer directly after CoolSculpting to maximize your results and create smoother contours. If your practitioner doesn’t have Z-Wave, then you should be manually massaged. You can also massage the treated areas yourself at home. Some of my patients find it helpful to wear Spanx or any type of shapewear. This helps with tenderness and swelling for the first few days. Everyone’s body reacts slightly differently to the procedure. If you tend to bruise easily, you may want to take Arnica before and after your treatment. Ice is not recommended as you may be slightly numb and ice too much. Good hydration is always recommended, but there is no need to over hydrate. Other than arnica, there are no special supplements to help heal or kill more fat cells. A healthy diet low in salt will help to prevent excessive swelling. The advantage of Coolsculpting is that no after care is required, but there are things you can do to improve your result. Staying hydrated is important. No special garment is necessary but I do recommend a tight fitting garment for a few days if patient experiences any swelling which is not common. Bruising can occur but again it is rare and Arnica and other anti bruising meds can help.

Almost all patients are able to resume to their normal activities immediately following their treatment. We always recommended drinking plenty of water and continue to live a healthy lifestyle at home. Some patients feel comfortable using a compression garment to help with any discomfort, but is not a necessity. Good luck!

Hello, Thank you for your question. If they are using the new CoolAdvantage hand-pieces then you should have minimal discomfort. With that being said, many say that compression garments help minimize some of the discomfort. Congratulations on your treatment and good luck!

After a CoolSculpting procedure, the treated area should be massaged for several minutes by the person treating you.  There is really nothing that you need to do afterwards that would affect the result. I have never had patients use a compression garment, massage, ice or supplements following the treatment.   

Hi,The good news is that one of the big advantages of CoolSculpting is that there is no aftercare required. Your provider will massage the area after the treatment. Then just wait for any bruising and tenderness to subside and the fat to disappear!

Most patients just go back to normal activities after a Coolsculpting treatment. The area will be massaged by your provider after the treatment, and the area is usually a little tender so patient massage is not usually recommended. You can treat any bruising with topical arnica, though the bruise will go away on its own. Overall, it just takes some patience. I recommend following up with your practitioner about their recommended after care. Swelling can last 3-6 months after your procedure. To speed up healing, you can try adding hyperbaric oxygen, lymphatic massage, venus legacy or exilis radiofrequency treatments. Keep in mind, some people need more than one treatment of Coolsculpting and for best results with Coolsculpting, I recommend a combination approach. We tell our patients to resume their normal activity levels as long as they can tolerate it. The results are not affected by whether you do a high intensity activity or not. The area will have some soreness, swelling, tingling, numbing and bruising which usually resolves around 2 -3 weeks. If it is really sore and bruised then the patient can take arnica tablets or wear a compression garment to reduce the swelling and pain.
