Is it possible to have the Sculpsure procedure if you have abdominal mesh?

Question

I have had two hernia surgeries and my abdominal wall is covered with mesh. Will the laser destroy this message or is it still safe to have this procdure done?

Yes, you can have Sculpsure after hernia repair. Keep in mind, with Sculpsure a combination of treatments is needed. I recommend combining Sculpsure with Vanquish and Venus Legacy/Exilis Ultra treatments. We currently use a fire and ice treatment with Coolsculpting and Vanquish for good results in fat removal. However, a VASER hi definition procedure would give you the best results with fat removal, contouring and definition. See an expert for a formal evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer

There is no problem with SculpSure being used over a hernia that has been repaired with mesh.  However, you need sensation to the skin to prevent a burn during a SculpSure session.  So, if your skin is numb over the area of the hernia repair, then SculpSure should not be performed in that area.Good Luck!

The laser only impacts the subcutaneous fat layer and will not affect deeper structures like an abdominal mesh. It should be a safe procedure for you to explore.

Hernias are a contraindication with the SculpSure treatment. If repair has been performed and mesh has been used, you may not be a candidate for treatment. It is best to to be evaluated by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who can evalute your abdomen and placement of mesh.

One of the contraindications to SculpSure is having a hernia. However, if the hernia has been repaired properly, there shouldn't be a problem. The mesh itself is not a problem. The SculpSure laser targets only fat cells, so the mesh is not going to get damaged in the process.

Your doctor will have to examine you and evaluate you for Sculpsure.Laterally it should be fine but directly over the mesh could be a problem depending on how thick the padding is over the mesh.Inguinal hernias are lower and out of the area where Sculpsure is used.Abdominal mesh needs and evaluation.Best wishes,Dr. Denkler
