Anesthesia for people with alopecia?

Hello. I have Alopecia Areata and I wanna get my nose done, but I'm scared that the anesthesia will trigger my disease and it will make my alopecia worse. Is it possible for aa to turn into totalis after getting anesthesia and Is it contrainidicated for AA patients to get rhinoplasty?

There is a connection between general anaesthetic and alopecia, it's not an absolute contraindication, it's just a risk factor. For more details, consult with a Dermatologist.

There are studies that show that there is an increased risk of AA after undergoing general anesthesia. However, it may depend on the type of anesthesia, duration, surgical area, etc. It is best to discuss the risks with your surgeon as well as anesthesiologists. Hope this helps.

I suggest you consult with your dermatologist to get a better understanding of the implications of surgery, including anesthesia for alopecia areata.
It’s definitely possible to have rhinoplasty surgery done using sedation, avoiding general anesthesia.
I’m wondering if a short dose of anti-inflammatory steroids could be useful as a prophylactic during and immediately after surgery to protect your hair follicles.
This is not something I’m a specialist on it, so find a dermatologist who had a great deal of experience, treating the condition to calculate acceptable risk.
It is a condition that holds no guarantees, and for some people the future of the condition is simply unknown.
