Can you crack nose cartilage in sleep?

Question

For reference, I had a rhinoplasty in 2017 and healed up nicely following that. Last week, I woke up hearing a cracking sound from my nose. It hurt a lot. I was on my side when I woke up, my nose in the pillows. Ever since, the right side of the tip of my nose has been extremely tender. There is no bruising or swelling, but hurts if I poke the tip. I can breathe fine. Today (5 days after injury) the tip of my nose feels numb. Is it possible I cracked my cartilage in sleep?

You should find out whether you had a cartilage graft placed in your nose. Your symptoms sound like a cartilage graft that shifted. If this is the case it may be simplest to have the graft removed if it is bothersome to you

It would be difficult to conclude whether cartilage(s) are cracked 6 years after surgery, even if additional cartilage grafts were used for tip shaping and support. However, only on the basis of in-person evaluation by your surgeon, this mystery can be unveiled. Hope this helps.
