Yes, you can have microneedling a year after Accutane. Keep in mind, acne scars need a combination approach for improvement. For the best results, one should target the acne scar type. As everyone has a unique pattern of acne scarring, the best solution is a tailored one. Typically you need fillers like bellafill and sculptra for atrophic indented type scars with or without subcision. Subcision for depressed tethered scars. Vascular lasers like yellow laser, aerolase, excel V or IPL for redness or thick scars. And lasers such as fraxel, erbium, co2 or fractional radiofrequency like venus viva, skinfinity, intensif microneedling RF for textural issues and superficial scarring. Deep ice pick scars and narrow box car scars are best treated with TCA CROSS and punch excision. All lasers are combined with microneedling and PRP to get even better results and improve healing times. The majority of patients will have a collection of different scar types, and hence a tailored treatment plan is needed by an expert physician. It is never about the laser or product that gives the results, its about the expert behind the equipment that gets you the outcome. Scars cannot be cured and will need life-long treatments to maintain and build on the results. Best, Dr. Emer.
Morpheus 8 is a non-invasive skin and soft tissue tightening treatment that is consistently amazing in our patients. We use the Morpheus to exact fractional induced RF into the skin or tissue in order to tighten collagen and stimulate contraction of the tissue. For acne scars, it is quite useful to build collagen in patients who have atrophic scars but is not very productive for ice-pick scars which require TCA Cross. For tissue tightening, Morpheus is ideal for the face and neck and we often combine it with CO2 laser or Ultherapy to further enhance results. Chemical peels and skin resurfacing should be done at least 5 to 7 days after, but can be performed earlier, depending on treatment severity. Avoid exfoliating skin treatments before Morpheus and expect a period of 2-4 weeks for skin contraction to set in. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon
Hi @li12. It is safe to get microneedling a year after discontinuing Accutane. I would also recommend adding PRP to your treatment. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!
Thank you for your question. Yes, it is safe to have a microneedling treatment a year after Accutane. I am unable to assess the severity of your scars without a picture, however microneedling is generally a great treatment to diminish the appearance of acne scars. Microneedling will also improve the overall texture and tone of your skin. You can enhance your microneedling results through the use of your own PRP (platelet rich plasma) or PRF (platelet rich fibrin). PRP and PRF stimulate the production of growth factors, collagen and elastin in the treatment area which will yield faster results and less downtime post treatment. PRP and PRF is obtained by a simple blood-draw. I recommend three microneedling treatments 4-6 weeks apart for optimal improvement. Best of luck,Dr. Kian
Thank you for you questionYes, a year is more then enough time to wait before receiving the micro needling treatment. Micro needling is a wonderful treatment to remove scars due to acne. Thank you
It is safe to have microneedling after taking a year off of Accutane. For best results, we recommend Microneedling in combination with PRP. This causes microinjuries to the surface of the skin, which will stimulate collagen production and is an excellent treatment for anyone who would like to improve appearance of acne scarring, pore size reduction, as well as overall skin tightening. We recommend a minimum of 3 sessions spaced at about 4-6 weeks. For best results please consult with a board certified dermatologist with experience in Microneedling with PRP. Best of luck to you.
Yes it is perfectly safe to micro-needle for scars after being off of Accutane for a least 6 months.
It is perfectly safe to get microneedling a year after Accutane. Microneedling with PRP is a great treatment for acne scars. Please make sure you get a medical-grade microneedling performed in a medical setting by a physician since scars require a deeper technique.
YES, all ok, not just with the physicians on RealSelf, but written as a consensus in two articles. One in July of 2017 and one earlier. Your doctor will be able to guide you as these are land mark articles that have re-written the 'rule book' , or in proper terms, the 'Guide lines'. Microneedling has come a long way over the past few years and can help skin via several methods. Firstly it releases cytokines and growth factors in the epidermis and dermis- the top and bottom layers of your skin. This in turn remodels scars and the dermal layer of the skin. Additionally needles can break up scars themselves. This leads to new collagen formation, and in practice can provide limited skin rejuvenation.Microneedling is both user dependent and method driven. Simple needles can be used, growth factors can be added after the procedure, including PRP, or controlled heating during the procedure. This controlled heating is delivered via RF, and is called RF microneedling. RF can then be delivered via insulated or insulated needles. Even the energy level, depths, density, pulse duration and so many other variables can be controlled. This together with the added benefits of growth factor infusion makes this one of the most complex procedures in procedural dermatology. I use everything from Dermapen, though to newer generation insulated and non-insulated devices including INFINI micro-needling radiofrequency, Intensif and others. Newer generation devices can provide an added advantage in some, but not all patients. In my practice, I combine microneedling with many different forms of energy devices, depending on the expectations of the patient. Tailored microneedling combination will always give the best results. Like most procedures, its 80% skill level of the specialist and 20% dependent on the brand of the energy device- microneedling system. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
Hi,the goal of any microneedling is to increase collage, elastin, decrease hyperpigmentation, and treat small wrinkles. You still benefited from the first time, and you will accumulate the effects once you do more sessions. I prefer to start with 3 months in a row, to get collagen production...
It is highly unlikely that you should experience laxity in your skin. I am very unsure as for how you feel that is the cause or that your skin is already "loose". Microneedling stimulates collagen growth in the skin for tighting, evening out skin texture, and helps with hyperpigmentation in t...
