Are teardrop implants available in a smooth surface?

The purpose of texture (in the case of shaped implants) is to prevent device rotation. In contrast to round devices, shaped implants need to maintain a particular orientation within the pocket. If a round device rotates, it is still round. If a shaped device rotates, it no longer conforms to the classic tear drop shape.The texture acts as a sort of "velcro" allowing capsular in-growth and holding the orientation in place. For this reason, shaped implants are always textured.Textured devices have a lower rate of capsular contracture, however, when placed submuscular the difference is negligible.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Teardrop implants only come textured.
It is true that the reported cases of ALCL have only been found in cases where textured implants were used. The incidence of ALCL is very rare though, and I will still recommend a textured implant when clinically indicated. I think some of the advantages of a textured implant in given circumstances outweigh the risk of ALCL. This rare form of lymphoma however must always be mentioned as a risk for any patients undergoing breast augmentation.

Capsular contracture is commonThere are a number of companies that are suggesting that microtexturing which is available in anatomical implants is better than microtexturing. in reducing the incidence of ALCL. I am not aware of any smooth anatomically shaped implants.Smooth implants have increased risks of capsular contracture.
