How long do sutures take to sink in the skin after receiving stitch method otoplasty?

Every surgeon is going to have his/ her personal preferences in otoplasty techniques and type of suture (permanent or dissolvable, dyed or undyed, etc) used.  That being said, your question is likely best addressed by your surgeon, as he/ she has the benefit of knowing your anatomy, details of surgical procedure, and type of suture used.  Good luck!

Thank you for your question. Your question is very difficult to answer unless you know the type of suture material that was used. Most surgeons use a form of a permanent suture. This suture may be palpable for sometime. Occasionally, A suture may need to be removed if it is close

Hello Eleanor01,If the stitch is blue it is not one that will dissolve on its own. In suture otoplasty you usually don't use dissolvable stitches.  However, if you can see the blue this will not likely improve very much with time.  For this reason many surgeons will use a colorless or a white suture for otoplasty.  Even if a blue suture is used it should not usually be seen from the front depending on the technique used, and the skin in the back is thicker so it isn't usually seen there either.I would follow up with your surgeon to be evaluated and see what options you have.I hope this helps and good luck.  

If a suture is visible under the skin, it wasn’t positioned deep enough under the skin. If this doesn’t disturb you, you can leave it like that. However, if it does disturb you, then you should have this suture removed and replaced by a new one.
