Hi there,Judoing from your photos it looks like you have what promises to be an excellent result from your body lift. Things look to be going well healing wise with regard to the abdomen and hips. Your thighs maybe swollen but it is hard to tell. I suspect they are ok and that you have a little bit of swelling but this should recede soon. If you have any pain or you think it has become worse I'd suggest you see you surgeon soon for an in-person consultation.Kind regards,Dean
Hello, and thank you for your question regarding post-operative swelling following a lower body lift. Based on your history and photos, it is entirely normal—and expected—to experience swelling in your thighs following a 360 circumferential lower body lift. Swelling is a natural part of the healing process, especially in the early weeks post-surgery. Typically, swelling in the thighs resolves by around two months post-op.If swelling persists beyond that timeframe, it may require additional attention. Prolonged swelling, or lymphedema, can occasionally occur after procedures like this, though permanent lymphedema is rare. In such cases, treatments like lymphatic massage, diuretics (such as Lasix), and compression garments can help reduce swelling. In your current situation, being only five days post-op, the swelling is entirely within the expected range for healing. However, if you notice sudden swelling, particularly in one leg, it is critical to contact your plastic surgeon immediately. Sudden swelling could indicate a rare but serious issue, such as a blood clot, which needs urgent evaluation.Good luck with your recovery, and I hope this helps to reassure you!Sincerely,Dr. Katzen
Thanks for your question, JourneyContinued.Swelling in the thighs is a common body response after a lower body lift. It’s how the body heals. Since it’s only been five days since your surgery, you can expect swelling to continue for a few more weeks. You can minimize swelling by elevating your legs at or above heart level. You should also minimize salt in your diet and increase your fluid intake for faster healing. If possible, ask your reputable and board-certified plastic surgeon about using compression garments.Best of luck!
