Your age won't be a main factor. To determine whether or not you are a good candidate for a body lift, a plastic surgeon will want to see a BMI index less than 35, a stable weight for at least 2 months, an H&P and a CBC blood test 2 weeks prior to surgery. If your BMI is 35 or highter, you'll likely be advised to lose weight prior to surgery because surgical risks are definitely increased with higher BMI’s. These surgical complications include problems that can occur both during the cosmetic surgery procedure, as well as problems which manifest post operatively. Intra-operative risks include anesthesia and airway complications, which can both lead to serious injury or even death. Post operative complications include pulmonary embolism and poor wound healing issues.Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who can assess your surgical risk and advise you accordingly.See the web reference for more information about the body lift procedure and the video for more information about BMI and elective surgery.Best wishes!
Hello Dave Umbower. Thank you for your question of whether a 65-year-old man can get a lower body lift without weight loss. The short answer is “yes, a 65-year-old man can get a body lift without weight loss”. The most important question is if the 65-year-old man is medically healthy for surgery. A patient can be 65 years old and healthy and ready for surgery; however, if the 65-year-old patient is unhealthy, smokes, has diabetes, and uncontrolled hypertension, etc., these medical conditions may prohibit a 360 circumferential lower body lift surgery. It’s very important that you have a preoperative clearance with your internist to determine if you are healthy for the procedure. In addition, it will be important for your plastic surgeon and his or her team to be comfortable performing a 360 circumferential lower body lift on a patient who is 65-year-old. After your lower body lift, I would suggest you spend two nights in the recovery center for close observation. Since the body lift is a big procedure, please seek an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon with significant experience performing the lower body lift. Do your research. Make sure they have performed at least 100 circumferential lower body lift surgeries and have the before and after pictures to prove it. Carefully examine their before and after pictures and check their reviews on RealSelf. If you cannot find an experienced, lower body lift surgeon in your neighborhood, consider traveling out of state if you must. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen. The fact that you are 65 years old doesn’t not eliminate the possibility to have a LBL Your health is important to evaluate but also your body to determine if you are a good candidate for surgery
Body lifts are designed to remove excess skin. The most common causes of excess skin is pregnancy and massive weight loss. If you are healthy and have excess skin then you may be a candidate for a body lift. Have a consultation with a plastic surgeon who does body lifts. Good luck.
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question and provided information as well. In general, you may be a good candidate if:You are physically healthy and at a stable weight, you have realistic expectations, you are a non-smoker, you are bothered by the appearance of your body and your BMI is 33 or less.Unfortunately, without pictures is very difficult to give you a proper answer. I recommend to book a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss the best options for your goals.Good luck :)
You'd need to be examined in person with a full medical history taken to determine your candidacy. Ideally, your body mass index needs to be in the low 30's or lower, and you need to be in general good health and be medically cleared by a primary care physician. This can not be answered here on RealSelf without consulting with you in person. Some patients are candidates for the same basic body lifting techniques (tummy tuck, thigh lifts, back lift) even if they have not lost significant weight; personalized consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is necessary for you to be advised on your specific case.
If your BMI is over 30, you are at added risk for complications. If you are heavy and have not lost weight, then this surgery would not be for you. Finally, realize that this is big surgery and it is elective surgery. Therefore, you should be at your most optimal shape before going in for surgery. And finally, realize that 65 year old folks are just at more general risk for complications than a 25-40 year old.Elliot W. Jacobs, MD, FACSNew York City
