Swelling post lipo on abdomen, breast lift with implant. Could a sauna or stream room help reduce swelling?

Could a few minutes in a sauna or steam room once the wounds are closed help reduce swelling? If so, how many weeks post op would you recommend I sit in the sauna and for how long?

Steam rooms, saunas, jacuzzi's, hot baths will not affect your implants wheather they are saline or silicone gel. Your core body temperature (where the implants are)  will remain within a few degrees of normal regardless of the outside temperature. Silicone by the way can withstands large degrees of heat without degradation or  breakdown. #breastaugmentation#breastimplants

Thank you for your question. Abdominal swelling is normal after breast augmentation.  Swelling follows gravity and thus your abdomen (and sometimes the thighs) will experience more swelling and add confusion to the post-op period. You may even notice that you've added many pounds on the scale that cannot be explained solely by the addition of implants.  You should notice a decrease in the abdominal swelling with each week that passes by.  A sauna will likely worsen the swelling.

I would not recommend using a sauna or steam room to reduce swelling after your surgery. Consult with your surgeon, trust his advice, and be patient. Swelling (edema) takes time to fully resolve. Compression garments, ice, and non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (Motrin, Advil, Alleve) may make a difference.Best wishes

Saunas and steam rooms are usually very dirty places and should be avoided after surgery. They do not help swelling and may make it worse.
