I had microneedling with PRP 8 days ago and still have swelling in my face and under my eyes. I typically swell with cosmetic procedures and have had to be on a short term course of prednisone after an IPL treatment years ago. Is this typical? I have another one booked in 4 weeks and am hesitant to do another one now because of this swelling. I didn't expect to have this much downtime. The redness subsided after about 48 hours. Would a course of prednisone help the swelling?
Answer: Microneedling PRP - Recovery Hello and thank you for your question. The swelling post microneedling after 8 days is unusual. Prednisone is a good anti inflammatory drug and it can be used safely for short periods of time. Best, Oxana Popescu MD

Answer: Swelling after microneedling It is unusual to still have swelling 8 days after microneedling. I would wonder if you have any sort of underlying inflammatory disease or if you have an allergy to any of the products that were used during or after the procedure. I would recommend ruling those out. In the meantime, a short course of Prednisone certainly would be appropriate.

Answer: Microneedling and Swelling Hi dane727,It is hard to tell what recommendations to give you without pictures and without knowing what aftercare instructions you were given. It is normal to have swelling for a couple days but 8 days is not normal. Please follow up with the specialist that did your microneedling to see what they recommend. I would not schedule a second procedure until you have found the underlying cause of the swelling and I also suggest making the appointment 6 weeks after the swelling has gone down, so you have plenty of time to let your skin heal.Microneedling is a fantastic and minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. We use state of the art physician grade technology called Skin Pen II. The fine needles of the device are used to minimally puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Please see my RealSelf profile for examples of this treatmentAll the best,

Answer: Swelling after one week post microneedling. Not normal for swelling to occur at this mark. You may have underlying dermographism, or other predisposing conditions, allergic or irritant contact dermatitis. Yes, prednisone can help, but I would advice that you seek out the CAUSE of the prolonged swelling, rather than treat the symptoms. Your Board Certified Dermatologist can help assist with your answers. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
