Swelling 8 days post microneedling with PRP: Would a course of prednisone help?

Hello and thank you for your question. The swelling post microneedling after 8 days is unusual.  Prednisone is a good anti inflammatory drug and it can be used safely for short periods of time.

It is unusual to still have swelling 8 days after microneedling.  I would wonder if you have any sort of underlying inflammatory disease or if you have an allergy to any of the products that were used during or after the procedure.  I would recommend ruling those out.  In the meantime, a short course of Prednisone certainly would be appropriate.

Hello, Thank you for your question. Swelling 8 days post procedure does seem unusual, however, if you know you are sensitive than perhaps this is normal downtime for you. Some people are more sensitive to treatments than others. Follow up with your Doctor.We wish you the best luck!

Hi dane727,It is hard to tell what recommendations to give you without pictures and without knowing what aftercare instructions you were given. It is normal to have swelling for a couple days but 8 days is not normal. Please follow up with the specialist that did your microneedling to see what they recommend. Not normal for swelling to occur at this mark. You may have underlying dermographism, or other predisposing conditions, allergic or irritant contact dermatitis. Yes, prednisone can help, but I would advice that you seek out the CAUSE of the prolonged swelling, rather than treat the symptoms.
