Who does the medical illustration/simulation work?

The use of these softwares is up to the preference of the surgeon. I personally find that it is very helpful to plan the surgery, show the patient what is possible, and make sure that both the patient and surgeon are on the same page in terms of the aesthetic outcome. There are many different softwares to use and no one software is the best; It depends on which software the surgeon likes to use most (think of it as being similar to Windows versus Macintosh).

Your surgeon will be using a plastic surgery simulator for your simulation. This is a simple but effective tool by which your doctor can reshape parts of your nose to experiment and see what your ideal nose may look like. With that said please remember that while computer imaging can give you an approximation of your surgery results, the exact outcome can not be guaranteed. Many surgeons do computer simulations or have a staff member do it. I do something simpler. I take a photo in profile and print the picture. Then I use a pencil to demonstrate the alterations in the nose on profile. I think it more closely resembles what is actually done during surgery

Hi there! It depends on the surgeon. I always use software and morph photos with my patients in front of me. I believe this helps to create a vision and something the patient wants. I use Mirror as I find it to be user friendly. I find morphing to be instrumental in establishing expectations. Analysis can be done at the same time. Hope this helps!

In our practice, our staff usually performs the simulation with a computer imaging software which is available only for medical professionals. We also have a software on our website called Face Touch Up which allows patients to upload their own photograph and do their own computer imaging. Patients can then send us their own computer imaging. The imaging itself works best from the side profile. Make sure you use an excellent quality photograph to get the best results. Computer imaging is only a communication tool, and not a guarantee of results. It just helps in the education process to understand what can and cannot be accomplished with a rhinoplasty procedure.
