Procedure to shave down square chin? Trans MTF (Photos)

Hello! With a genioplasty, we perform an osteotomy (cut the bone) and move the segment of the chin to its desired position. However, that would not reduce the square shape as much. In this case, we would need to shave down those corners to create softer features! Depending on your desired profile, we may do both (it is common). But if you are only looking to reduce those sharper points, it would be fairly easy to go in and contour them down to produce a more feminine look. Genioplasty is a potent procedure. It allows us to move the shin and change the shape. A T or V genioplasty is intended to reduce the shin's horizontal dimension. During this procedure is very important to have a precise surgical plan. We need to preserve both mental nerves and muscular attachments from the floor of the mouth to the shin. In this way, the viability of the bone is maintained. We can move and fix the bone segments with mini plates once the bone segments are cut.

You have a "W" shaped chin that has 2 bony prominences. This is generally considered a "masculine type" chin. Ideally a "V" shaped chin is considered feminine. The surgery to correct this is done through the inside of the mouth with no external scars. The bony prominences can me shaved down and the chin sculpted with a high speed burr. Once the chin is reduced, swelling lasts several weeks to a few months, but recovery is otherwise very easy. It's possible to have some numbness to the chin and lower lip which usually resolves within a few months.
