Fraxel Repair is an ablative, aggressive CO2 laser. It can provide dramatic results after just one treatment, but the downtime can last for up to a week. Fraxel Restore is non-ablative and more gentle than the Repair. Fraxel Restore may require multiple treatment sessions for full results, but the downtime is much less. Both lasers work well for treating brown spots and wrinkles. I recommend visiting a board-certified dermatologist for an in-person consultation in which you can outline your goals and tolerance for downtime and come up with the best treatment plan together.
One is ablative co2 resurfacing (which requires days of downtime and looks like a wound/burn) the other is nonablative resurfacing (which looks like a sunburn). Please see an expert for treatment. Best, Dr. Emer.
We have used both the Fraxel Repair and Fraxel Restore for many years. The Fraxel Restore is a non-ablative laser with minimal downtime. The Fraxel Repair is a fractionated CO2 laser that literally vaporizes tissue. There is usually 7-14 days of downtime with the Fraxel Repair. Most patients will require a series of treatments with the Fraxel Restore. The Fraxel Repair is usually performed as a single treatment and not part of a series.
The Fraxel RePair is a co2 laser, meaning it is more suited for skin rejuvenation with deeper wrinkles and sun damage, whilst Restore is a non-ablative laser- much quicker healing times. The video below will highlight the differences in fractional lasers including their uses and healing times. Dr Davin Lim Laser DermatologistBRISBANE, Australia.
