I feel like my crowns have a grey shading indoors. I haven’t gotten them permanently cemented. Is there anything I can do?
Answer: Crown color grey or not to my liking? You must be happy with the color of crowns you are having. That is why the dentist will have a consult with you regarding the final color you desire. Once the color is selected you get exactly that color YOU selected. Now if for any reason you do not feel comfortable with final color, ask your dentist if they can be altered, which may be additional cost.In general, the final color depends on 3 main factors: 1-The preparation of the teeth by your dentist2-The porcelain material selected, and 3-The artistic ability of the master ceramist! Some crowns such as empress may show a lot more translucency, compared to zerconia crowns or lava, which they reflect light, and they look whiter and more opaque. Having said that the shaping of your teeth by your cosmetic dentist is vital, for the ceramist to block out enough room for the final color of porcelain. You need to ask your treating dentist if he can brighten them a bit more, which that should be ok, but it will require a lot of time by ceramist, and the dentist.Best of luck,Dr Mobasser

Answer: Adjusting grey looking crowns Hello and thank you for your question. Since you haven’t had the crowns permanently cemented, the color can be modified. Also all material will have slightly different color under different lighting condition. Ask your dentist to arrange a meeting with the dental technician. It is really helpful if the technician can see the result in person. I recommend following up with your Dentist about your concerns or consult with a Prosthodontist, who can discuss with you the different types of crowns to give you the best long-term results. . A Prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has advanced training in restoring teeth and can create a customized treatment using the latest techniques in dental crowns.

Answer: Do my crowns look grey? Hello, As far as the color of your crowns, in different light they can look different. With different cameras they look different dependent on the camera and the flash. The firs picture you sent , the crowns look a little gray, in the third picture they all look a little more yellow than the first picture. The goal is to have them blend in with the color of your natural teeth. As a cosmetic dentist , yes I can see a tinge of gray but it's not that bad and i'm sure it's not that noticeable to other people. Colors are very important to pick and it's the ability of the lab technician and the doctor to match the color of all the teeth. If you're not 100% happy I would recommend being in the same room as the technician and explaining what you want with him and the doctor. Best of Luck, Dr. Glosman

Answer: Grey crowns In the pictures your crowns appear to have a lot of translucency on the biting edge. Some people don't like this. You may also be seeing some shadowing from your lip. You are the one who has to live with these restorations so if you think they are grey they can be sent back to the lab and have the color adjusted.
