Necrosis after lip fillers? (photo)

This may be due to swelling or superficially placed filler. I recommend following up with your injector. If necessary, the filler can be reversed with hyaluronidase. Hope this helps.

Hello. Well done on knowing the complications of your treatment.
It’s very difficult to tell from photos if you have true pallor or if it’s just the “white roll” of your lip. I’d suggest going to your treating physician and asking them to check your capillary refill and look for any other signs that would indicate an occlusion.

Other signs to look out for include the progression of pallor to a bluish discolouration to the skin and pustule formation.

I hope that this isn’t the case and from the photos it’s very hard to tell if there’s anything other than some post treatment swelling going on. I would advise, that if you are worried, to go and see your physician, even if it’s just for reassurance! The best of luck, Dr Semira Kwabi

Your lips appear swollen and slightly bruised but there does not appear to be any areas of necrosis. Necrosis can occur with intravascular injections and usually causes immediate blanching and pain.  Duskiness can progress if the circulation is not reestablished leading to necrosis which is purplish-black scaly skin over several hours to days. You are now 5 days out and should be fine. If you have questions you should follow up with the treating physician.

Hey there,Pale areas post filler may be because of inadequate massage post filler or because of superficial placement of the filler or it may be a sign of ongoing vascular compression because of the filler. Best thing you should do is to get back immediately to your injector and get it sorted out.

Hi,It is unlikely that you have necrosis - such an event would be heralded by significant pain, immediate paleness to an area of skin and eventually, a greyish duskiness to the skin. It is always prudent to follow up with your injector with concerns.Best,Mehdi Sina, MD

 Hi, I have performed many lip augmentation procedures using dermal fillers or lip implants for over 30 years. From the photos, your lip appear to be a bit swollen with minimal signs of bruising.  Any "needle based" therapy which includes things like dermal filler or Botox can lead to minor, temporary swelling and bruising.  These should all resolve, if and when they occur, in a matter or hours or days.  Anything lasting beyond that should probably be seen by the Surgeon/Doctor that did the dermal filler injections to rule out ulcerations due to herpes simplex or vascular complications.  Following my beauty principles, the lips should be full with the upper lip approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The lips can be augmented using a dermal filler or a Permalip implant.
Dermal fillers and lip implants offer a much more reliable volume for augmentation of the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections which are associated with increased, unwanted, side effects.

Hi Tracy,Good thing that you are observant. Did the pain worsen and are there violaceous spots? If you aren't in pain, chances are it's not vascular occlusion.
