I had otoplasty about 8 months ago and just noticed this thread-like thing sticking out of my incision. Is this just a stitch? Do I need to visit my surgeon? Can I just clip it myself?

Answer: Stitches coming through incision after otoplasty? One can see that a suture has pierced through the skin and is lying exposed. It should be removed to prevent infection occurring.

Answer: Stitch through wound after otoplasty Many surgeons use permanent stitches for an otoplasty. If these become exposed and or infected it is unlikely that the wound will heal up until the whole stitch and the knot has been removed. If a stitch is protruding through the scar and is just cut off it may leave the stitch material behind which may go on acting as a focus for infection, discharging and presenting a problem.I advise you to return and see the surgeon who carried out the procedure. If they are unavailable then you should see a surgeon who is suitably qualified and experienced in this type of surgery.Best wishes
