Is there a plastic surgeon who has the knowledge and successful experience performing liposuction on patients with lipedema?

In all of the literature that I've read regarding lipedema surgery, the surgeons suggested have been trained by doctors in Germany. The Roxbury Clinic in CA were specially trained by the German doctor but want over $30,000 - with payment up front! I'm willing to travel....but not to Germany!!

I am Dr. David Amron, Founder and Medical Director of The Roxbury Institute. I believe you may be referring to Dr. Stutz, in Germany.  While he is an excellent surgeon with his own method of treating lipedema, I was not trained by him or anyone in Germany. For the past 24 years, I’ve spent my entire professional career specializing in liposuction and body contouring procedures. My practice has been specifically focused on treating patients from across the globe who suffer from very complicated cases most surgeons aren’t willing to treat. These cases typically include revision liposuction surgery, liposuction on difficult areas of the body (such as the calves and ankles) and patients with poor skin elasticity and cellulite. Because of this, I have created my own method of treatment (The Amron Method*) and I am the only surgeon in the U.S. using this method.  I use a unique “three-dimensional contouring” approach to treat lipedema, and view each body part in a complete, comprehensive three-dimensional fashion. I approach each cosmetic unit one at a time, rather than breaking it up into different procedures and surgeries. This allows me to remove the diseased fat from a particular body part in one single surgery.I also employ a multi-system and multi-step approach using:

  My philosophy is to target disproportion on the patient’s body, so as the patient loses weight, he or she does so in a very proportioned and balanced fashion. Liposuction surgery is performed to remove all the diseased fat from the lipedema patient’s body. However, there is careful attention and skill employed to achieve the perfect cosmetic unit.  
  
To achieve a functional improvement in each patient, liposuction should accomplish three main goals in every surgery.

Dr. Thomas Wright has been performing lipedema reduction surgery for nearly two decades. He is one of the most experienced lipedema surgeons in the US and world and as published his surgical outcomes in PRS global Open. His paper of lipedema reduction surgery showing improved mobility, knee mechanics and quality of life won the award for Best reconstructive paper in 2023. Dr. Wright has trained with numerous German surgeons over the years, and also has collaborated in research with leading researchers in the field of lipedema. Dr. Wright performs a specialized type of lipedema liposuction for considerably less than what is charged on the east and west coasts. Currently, he charges $10,500 for a lipedema reduction surgery for patients with BMI over 35 and $8,500 for patients with BMI under 35.

Lipedema requires tumescent liposuction in order to safely improve Lipedema. Gentle extraction of the fat with water assisted devices (exp: Bodyjet) and/or ultrasound assisted technology (exp: Vaser) is necessary in order to see the best results. Pricing is dependent upon the physician, location, and the physicians experience treating Lipedema patients. Dr. David Amron, from Roxbury Clinic in California, is a very experienced Lipedema dermatologist who performs liposuction surgery.However, he's not the only one. Dr. Jaime Schwartz in California is also performing a lot of liposuction surgery, and he is a plastic surgeon. Dr. Gutowski is in Chicago; he's a plastic surgeon performing liposuction surgery also. I perform liposuction surgery in New Jersey. And I am a board-certified plastic surgeon. The technique of liposuction in Germany is different from ours. However, I cannot tell you that it is much better. Liposuction surgery for Lipedema does cost more because it takes significantly more time. However, in our experience, lipedema can be covered by insurance, which is what most of my patients get. So if you have commercial coverage, desire to have it done, and endurance to go through the Lipedema preauthorization process, we're happy to help you also.
