I’m ok with either, just wondering if my labiomental fold is already too deep to have just a chin implant. Looking for more projection to balance my facial features and lengthen the jawline.
Answer: Genioplasty A genioplasty would be the better solution for you. It will add more projection and length to your profile. It will also create more definition to your jawline and change the depth of the labiomental fold. A genioplasty is more versatile than a chin implant, which is why it is generally preferred for cases of advancement.

Answer: Chin surgery In the photos it appears that the height of your chin is within the normal range. The mentolabial fold is not to deep. I perform both procedures and you would benefit from either procedure equally.

Answer: Chin augmentation Based on these photos, you are candidate for chin augmentation; it does not matter whether sliding genioplasty or chin augmentation with implant is used for that purpose. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon familiar with chin augmentation is recommended. Good luck.

Answer: Would a sliding genioplasty you or a chin implant be better for me A sliding genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay in the hospital, and is much more invasive. This procedure is usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. Chin implants are placed under local anesthesia in an office setting under local anesthesia which takes approximately 30 minutes is done for purely cosmetic purposes.

Answer: Chin augmentation options There are really three options for chin augmentation. You’ve mentioned implants and sliding genioplasty. The third option is fillers though that requires maintenance to keep results. One procedure isn’t better than the other. Each one has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. From what I see it seems like oral surgeons tend to lean more towards the sliding genioplasty while plastic surgeons tend to favor the implant but doctors from either specialty should be able to perform both procedures. The sliding genioplasty may have a slight advantage in giving vertical height or a combination of forward and vertical augmentation. I suggest having a few in person consultations for the local board-certified plastic surgeon as well as some oral surgeons. Any forward augmentation will automatically deep in your Labiomenta mental angle or a fold. It’s a balancing act between getting some augmentation and not creating a witches chin. These are all things you can discuss during consultations. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
