Is my mole excision wound infected? (Photo)

Question

I got a mole from my lower back shaved off about 3 weeks ago. I have been washing it regularly and using Neosporin and a band aid each day. However, there is a little redness around the open wound and the wound itself is whiter in color. I'm worried about the evenly spaced red dots in the wound. Is it infected?

actually it looks relatively normal but shave biopsies from the lower back often look like this and take a long time to heal...probably will be another 3 weeks till the wound closes...good luck

I would recommend seeing the physician who removed the mole for an in person examination. An in person examination is better than a photo to determine if there is a component of infection. Some people are sensitive to neosporin and this can be complicating the picture with a 'contact allergy' and may not be any sort of infection. I usually recommend my patients to use plain aquaphor or vasaline to avoid this risk. Ask your specific doctor about their recommendationsBest of luck
