It's a very small, but very dark flat mole under my eye that I've had since childhood. It's also very close to my eye. What's the best way to remove it?

I would recommend excision of the mole under your eye.  This would be the most effective method to obtain complete removal.  It is a procedure that could easily be performed in the surgeon's office.

This can be treated cosmetically with dessication, but may require a few treatments to get it permanently.  With these types of moles there is a chance for recurrence but unlikely with someone experienced.  Best, Dr. Emer.

I would probably recommend either a small shave excision or even a simple excision (meaning removal like any other lesion) .The mole is very small and the risk for significant scarring or eyelid abnormalities is low. You would need an in person consultation however, to be more specific. Best of luck

Thanks for your question. When we have lesions like this, we have a few options for how to deal with them. Laser therapies or intense pulsed light therapies can be helpful for moles, but you'd likely need several treatments. You'd also need to have a shield placed on your eyeball (we use numbing drops) which isn't so pleasant.I'd probably recommend simply excising it. You'd end up with a vertical scar just below your eyelashes. If done properly, it should heal beautifully. This would have the added benefit of ensuring the lesion is completely removed. Good luck!
