Botox & laser hair removal. How long do I have to wait to get Botox?

Question

How long do I have to wait after a Botox treatment to get Lazer hair removal? I would like to permanently remove hair between my eyebrows. Thank you.

Jason Emer, MD · Answer

I recommend waiting 24 hours after your Botox treatment. Keep in mind, it will take a series of treatments with laser hair removal. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Benjamin Barankin, MD, FRCPC · Answer

If treating between the brows ("glabella") with laser hair removal, I would wait at least 3 days after Botox to go ahead with the treatment. That said, there is no "right" answer to this as this question has not truly been studied in a scientific study.

Georgios Ziakas, MD, FACS · Answer

These treatments have separate mechanisms of action so there is no specific recommendation. One possibility is skin irritation from the needle sticks and subsequent laser treatment but usually it is very mild, well tolerated by patients and resolves relatively quickly.

Bradford S. Patt, MD · Answer

There is not really any significant time period to wait between these two procedures except if there is some mild swelling or less likely bruising after your Botox injections I would suggest you let that resolve then you can undergo laser hair removal.

Benjamin J. Cousins, MD · Answer

Thanks for your question. I am not aware of the need to separate appointments for Botox and laser treatments. Best wishes,Dr. Benjamin J Cousins MD Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Melvin Elson, MD · Answer

There does not need to be any time between the two but are you sure you want to have laser treatment in the eye area?

Kimberly Finder, MD · Answer

Botox is injected into facial muscles to modify their movement. It takes a few hours for the liquid Botox to be taken up completely by the muscle. It's advisable to be careful for about 4 hours after Botox injection--leave it alone without rubbing or manipulating the area. I advise waiting until the next day to do other procedures, such as lasers or fillers.

Hello, Botox injections are into the muscle which is deep to skin. Laser hair removal only penetrates half way into the skin. Therefore Botox injections and LHR can be done on the same day. Best wishes.

Beverly Johnson, MD (retired) · Answer

There is no need to separate an appt for laser from an appt for Botox.Having said that, I would suggest that "laser safety is eye safety". I have yet to use the laser for eye brow hair removal.Hope this is helpful,Dr Beverly Johnson
