I had Lipo on my legs and upper thighs. Why are my legs bruised? The color are purple, blue, and black. Is this normal?

Bruising and swelling are normal in the suctioned areas and usually increase slightly after the removal of any tape or foam. The bruising will decrease over 3-4 weeks, but may last as long as 6 weeks. The majority of the swelling will be gone within the first 3-4 weeks. However it may take 6-9 months to disappear completely. The compression garment helps reduce the swelling, and the longer it is worn, the more quickly the process will proceed.

You may find that your bruising may descend down your legs into areas where liposuction was not performed. Bruising usually lasts around 2-6 weeks. Dear Beautiful One, Bruising after any surgery is common. With liposuction, it is surprising if a patient does NOT get a bruise. Bruises disappear with a gravity, so you may notice them traveling further down your legs as you heal. That is normal.

After any surgery, there is the potential for bruising which is simply bleeding under the skin.  That's what causes the discoloration of your skin.  This is very common after liposuction, is usually self limiting and gradually resolves over 2-3 weeks.  Compression garments, iced compresses and gentle ambulation will help speed dissipation of the bruises.  Follow up with your plastic surgeon so your progress can followed and be patient.
