I'm getting smartlipo tomorrow. I was told to quit smoking 2 wks prior. I didnt... I smoke about a pack per day. Other than slower healing are there any other reasons to quit?

Smoking can increase your risk for anesthetic reaction, slow healing, and cause higher chance of skin problems after liposuction such as blisters.  Also, your doctor specifically told you to stop prior to your surgery. You need to call your surgeon and disclose this information. He/She may decide to proceed with surgery, postpone it, or cancel it altogether because of non-compliance. In my practice, smokers sign a waiver agreeing to stop smoking for a period of time before the surgery (usually 4 weeks), and failure to do so will result in cancellation of the surgery.

Smoking in general is not healthy for you, and causes wound healing issues as well due to the nicotine vasoconstrictor effect and the carbon monoxide produced which competes with the oxygen tro be transported by the red blood cells.
