I was unaware of the consequences associated with smoking and implants so I have smoked for the past two days. This afternoon I started experiencing a dull pain similar to heart beat in my lower left jaw where the implant was placed. My gums do not appear to be red or swollen. What is this pain and I have I ruined my chances of having a successful implant? I'm so scared of loosing my implant please help!!!

Answer: Quit Smoking After Dental Implant Placement
Yes, this process could contribute to TMJ problems or pain. I would guess though that it's not so much due to the implant and more so due to the change in the bite. #27 (the lower canine or "eyetooth") plays a crucial part in how the bite operates.

Surgery is typically first. Your oral surgeon and cosmetic dentist whould be in contact to coordinate the treatment. They together can will be able to give you better sense of timing.
This could be occuring for a few reasons. Angulation of the implant may not ne perfect (bone available, adjacent teeth position, opposing teeth). May just need to adjust the bite
