Now my scabs are starting to fall off. I see that my boxcar has not improved- should I wait a bit more to see the skin repairing itself before judging or this is pretty much what the result is? Thank you!
Answer: Ematrix has a downtime of about 4-5 days. It is recommended to do between 3-5 treatments for the best results Our office has many different treatments for scars depending on the depth of atrophy or hypertrophy. Scars require a combination approach using our HI DEF protocol which uses a combination of lasers, topical scar modulation, and RF treatments to pixelate scars, improve contour, reduce hyperpigmentation, and improve the visibility of the scars so that they are no longer visible in ambient light. Everyone has a unique pattern of scarring and we employ our HIDEF technique to improve texture, color, contour, and topography. We often use a combination of treatments that begin with a careful examination to examine the micro texturing of the acne scars. Atrophic scars and indented scars can benefit from injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and Restylane with or without subcision to remove tethered scars and atrophic depression. Hyper-redness in scars can be improved with V beam laser, Excel V, BBL, IPL, and Venus RF to improve the redness and reduce the visibility of deep scars. Fractional Thulium laser and clear & brilliant can also reduce the inflammation and redness of the scar when combined with topical therapy. Fractional lasers such as Fraxel, erbium, and CO2 laser can be combined with radio frequency and also fractional RF to improve textual issues and microtopography. Subcision and TCA cross are also used for deep ice pick scars and narrow valley scars in order to improve the micro texture. Above all, our combination approach with our clinical nurses and board-certified plastic surgeons can improve the quality of your skin by using at home Melarase creams combined with PRP treatments in our office to improve your skin quality and tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an experienced team of experts in order to reduce your scarring. Finally, hyperpigmentation of scars can be improved with at-home Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads to help reduce active PIH and melanin deposition. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: EMatrix for acne scarring and topicals to relieve and reduce PIH Asian skin is prone to hyperpigmentation and measures should be taken along with eMatrix to prevent ongoing damage to the skin and reduce PIH. Reair with eMatrix will be ongoing for 6 months after treatment. eMatrix is sublative and can be used on Asian skin to reduce acne scarring. Before that, try Melarase AM and PM creams and Spectrase wide spectrum sun block to prevent ongoing damage and inflammation to the skin. An oral supplement called Scler-X is also helpful as a PIH Relief Complex. Best, H Karamanoukian MD FACS

Answer: Results from eMatrix We explain to our patients that the skin treated will appear red and flushed like a sunburn for about 48 hours and once the redness subsides, you will be left with tiny grid marks from the handpiece. These will slough off about a week post op. However, the skin texture and tone will continue to improve for about a month, so what you see is not the final result. We recommend 3 treatments once a month for the maximum results. This is our staffs favorite treatment because of its profound results and minimal downtime. You should have more if you haven't already!

Answer: EMatrix and Acne Scars: When Can You Expect Results? A few days is not enough time to assess the results of your eMatrix treatment, so don’t worry if there is no improvement quite yet. eMatrix resurfaces the skin via radiofrequency, which stimulates collagen production while minimizing heat exposure to the epidermis. This quality reduces the chances of hyperpigmentation, which is a risk that can be associated with laser procedures, and therefore makes eMatrix safe for virtually all skin types. Procedures like eMatrix can effectively stimulate collagen production for up to 6 months, so you are likely not going to see your final results for quite some time. Bear in mind that you will need multiple eMatrix treatments for a noticeable improvement, and may also need to incorporate a combination of subcision, microneedling, and/or filler such as Bellafill to target deeper scars. Improving acne scars can require a lot of patience, but significant improvement can be made if you give it some time. Best of luck.
