Hello. I had a liposuction on 22 October. Very small amount of fats was extracted from my arms but of course its still bruised. How long after Liposuction I can do arm jab ( HPV vaccine) ? The HPV vaccine provider advised me to consult doctor on this but doctor is not responding. Please advise and thank you
Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear vxvxvxvx, I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. Answer: Vaccine You should be able to take the vaccine from 4-6 weeks after surgery since most of the swelling will be gone. Or, you could have the vaccine placed in an area not treated.

Answer: Vaccination after liposuction Hello, In the US, the CDC states that HPV vaccines should be administered intramuscularly in the deltoid region of the upper arm or in the higher anterolateral area of the thigh. The preferred site of administration is the deltoid region of the upper arm. In my opinion, there should be no direct contraindication to receiving a vaccination after liposuction surgery as long as there no active infection overlying the planned injection site and you don’t have any allergies to the ingredients in the vaccine. In your case, if the provider doesn’t feel comfortable giving the vaccine in either shoulder region, they should be able to administer in one of your thighs.

Answer: Liposuction and vaccination Why don’t you get your vaccination shot on another part of your body like your buttocks, Abdomen or thighs. It doesn’t matter where the vaccine shot is given. Was your procedure done October 22 last year? If so you should be completely healed up and proceed as normal. This doesn’t seem like rocket science. As the stomach injection in areas healing from Liposuction will still get absorbed by your body but getting a shot in an area right after Liposuction may be a little uncomfortable. I’m surprised your doctor or provider can’t figure out how to get you a vaccination shot because you had arm liposuction. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
