I've got an unmovable and large pinchable inner knee (and above the knee) pocket. I've heard of risks to doing lipo to the knee area and I want to know if it is safe for me to look into this procedure. Context: 25-34y.o and very active
Answer: Liposuction Liposuction safely and easily can be done in the inner knee area. Please go to a board certified plastic surgeon for this.

Answer: Inner knee and thigh liposuction The inner knee responds very well to Liposuction and is an easy area to treat. Inner thigh liposuction focusing more on the upper part of the thigh is technically difficult and often does not deliver results consistent with what patients had anticipated. Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe and this includes plastic surgeons. For that reason I recommend patients be highly selective and only choose providers who have a proven track record doing lower extremity liposuction. Do that by having multiple in person consultations at which time you should ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures. Being shown a handful of preselected pictures which most likely represent the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider. This is why patients need to push providers to open up their portfolio and start showing a variety of results. Ask the provider to show as many pictures as they are willing to. Ask them especially to show you as many pictures as possible of patients with similar body characteristics to your own. you may also want to ask them to show examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and less than outcomes. we all have them and it’s fair game to ask to see a variety of outcomes to get a clear understanding of what your results will most likely look like in the hands of each provider. Liposuction results are permanent and irreversible. The time to focus on finding the right provider is before the procedure. It is definitely worth the effort to have multiple in person consultations avoiding virtual consultations whenever possible. Overall Liposuction is an extremely safe procedure with no complication rates but the number of patients who are happy with the outcome is a different story. Continue having consultations until you feel quite confident you find the most talented and experience provider to meet your needs. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
