For as long as I can remember, my breasts have always been two completely different sizes. I have researched any and all reasons for why my breasts would be this deformed. My Endocrinologist believes that it could be due to unbalanced hormones as I was diagnosed with PCOS ten years ago at 15. My insurance, Tricare, covers corrective surgery but only if it is congenital, which I don't know if thats the case.. I would really appreciate any opinions or thoughts on what my next move should be. Thanks!
Answer: Breast asymmetry Thank you for your question and for providing the photo. Breast asymmetry is extremely common - you are not alone. Asymmetry can come in many different forms including:-Volume asymmetry-Shape asymmetry-Positional asymmetry, where one breast is higher or more lateral than the other-Or any combination of any or all of the above.Correction of the asymmetry takes these factors into account with a variety of options to improve the evenness of the breasts. In some cases, implants are used to balance the breast volumes and shapes. In others, lifting or reshaping procedures are done. Most frequently, both are used in combination to make the breast more symmetric. In your case, there is a combination of volume, shape and positional asymmetry. Based on the photos, I would recommend placement of two different sized implants to match the volumes, and a lift to reshape the breasts and lift the right side. While there are other options, I feel that this would give the best and most natural result. Of course, an examination of your chest would be needed for final recommendations. All of this could be done as an outpatient procedure with limited recovery time. The next best step would be to schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon of your choosing. At that time, you could discuss the specific options for your breasts and decide how best to proceed.Best of luck with your breasts,Jeff Rockmore

Answer: Breast asymmetry options Thank you for your question. Breast asymmetry is very common, particularly size asymmetry. If you are looking to decrease the asymmetry from one breast to another, then you have several options. 1) You can reduce the larger breast with liposuction or a traditional breast reduction technique 2) You can enlarge the smaller one with fat grafting or an implant 3) You can enlarge both but use different size implants 4) A lift procedure may also be needed to help address differences in shape, nipple position and areolar size. I would visit with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options in more detail.

Answer: Breast asymmetry can be corrected by different strategies. There are different ways to address the asymmetry of your breasts primarily based on the final volume that you wish to be. I think both sides will need a mastopexy for the purposes of generating symmetry of the diameter in position of the areola. Volume asymmetry can be corrected by a reduction of the larger breast or augmentation Of the smaller.
