Should I have a septorhinoplasty before or after lip repositioning surgery?

Hello, I am going to have a septorhinoplasty done next year, and I am also considering lip repositioning surgery with my periodontist for my gummy smile (not due to depressor septi ligament). I wondering if there is a particular order I should have these procedures done in? I would like to have the lip repositioning done first, but I also heard that rhinoplasty can affect your upper lip and I don't want it to look too droopy. Thanks!

In general it is better to do the nose surgery first so that any affect that the nose surgery has on lip aesthetics (and it typically will have an affect) is considered before proceeding with any lip procedures.

Great question. If by lip repositioning surgery, you are referring to orthognathic surgery by oral surgeons, which involves breaking of your bone, etc, I would recommend you do that first. Those surgeries can have an impact in the shape and look of your nose also, so you should do that first to see the new baseline for the nose, and then adjust the nose to reach your needs. Otherwise if you do the nose first and then the other surgery, the other surgery could limit your ultimate outcome.

It's probably best to have the lip repositioning surgery first, wait a few months, and then undergo the septoplasty and rhinoplasty procedure. Choose your rhinoplasty surgeon wisely, since this procedure is one of the most difficult operations to perform correctly in the entire field of cosmetic surgery. Digital computer imaging would also be helpful in the communication process so that you can understand what can be accomplished with your nose upon your facial features.
