My boyfriend was messing around and accidentally hit my nose against his chest. Will everything be ok?

Thank you for your question. Based on your story, I'd say you're probably okay. If you notice any changes to the shape or ability to breathe, then there could've been an injury. This far out from surgery, the nose is about 98% done healing and a small bump shouldn't impact anything.

Unless there is an obvious deformity that you notice after your nose got accidentally hit, any lasting damage is typically not expected. The nose can take a full year for healing however so it is best to try and avoid any injuries as much as possible.

How fragile is your nose at eight months postop ? At eight months post nasal surgery your bones are very well set and strong. In my 35 years of doing nasal surgery I have had at least 100 patients contact me in the weeks and months immediately after surgery having had trauma to the nose and being concerned about any damage done. In all of those cases only one actually broke her nose, and that was someone who landed nose first on concrete steps. When there is trauma sufficient to fracture the nose there is significant pain, swelling, bruising including one or both black eyes, and usually a nose bleed. What you describe sounds innocuous and I would be very surprised if there were any trauma of any consequence. However it is not good to rely on remote advice without in person evaluation. So if you are concerned you should be evaluated by a plastic surgeon or ENT specialist and perhaps have an x-ray. My own gut feeling is that there was no harm done.

A full examination would be required to no more, but chances are that you are far enough along in the healing process and general that it is unlikely to have caused significant damage, based on your descriptions, but it is also early enough that it may hold onto extra swelling longer than he might otherwise anticipate.
