4 years post septorhinoplasty: had a hard hit to nasal bridge and a cut and bump formed - advice? (photos)

Question

My 2 year old accidentally hit the bridge of my nose with a wooden toy hard enough to cause a cut and a little bump, but no nosebleed, a day ago. I am 4 years post septorhinoplasty and although I know I am in the very early healing of this injury I am terrified that it may have messed up my nose cosmetically and am scarred by many years of dealing with a crooked nose before finally having it fixed. My surgeon has since retired so I don’t have him to go to currently.

Hi @ECM012987. If your nose did not bleed internally, you probably didn't fracture it then. What your are noticing is swelling of the lining of your nasal bone. I recommend that you ice the area.  Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

In general. If there is no nasal bleeding after trauma, there may not be a broken bone. You are seeing swelling of the lining of your nasal bone which will improve. Consider frozen peas, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for a day. If your bump doesn’t improve or if you should experience severe pain, you should see an ENT specialist. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

If your nose didn't bleed from the inside you probably didn't break it, and it simply may be swelling that you're seeing. If your nose is in a lot of pain you should consider a plastic surgery eval to make sure it's not broken, which may require surgery sooner. otherwise the bump can be reassessed down the road as the swelling resolves, as it most likely will go away on its own.
