...and costs? Hi, I’m a 29F, and I’ve just started researching a rhinoplasty. I feel like my nose is way too big for my face, but recently I’ve also noticed a little bit of excess skin by my chin. Any suggestions for what type of rhinoplasty to get (open/closed), what to do about the excess skin near my chin, and costs? Thank you so much!

Answer: Closed versus open rhinoplasty When performing a rhinoplasty, the surgeon must assess each component of the nose (skin/soft tissue, nasal bones, and cartilage) and modify these structures to give you the nose you want. Whether to perform open or closed rhinoplasty is mostly surgeon dependent, based on the goals above. In my practice, I perform primarily open rhinoplasty and reserve closed rhinoplasty for someone wanting a small hump reduced or a small amount of tip refinement. I feel as though I get better exposure of the nose, which allows more precision and control of the final nasal appearance. The small scar at the bottom of the nose is nearly invisible with careful closure. Closed rhinoplasty has more limited visibility and space to work, making it more difficult for noses that require more than minor modifications. I would recommend consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon experienced in rhinoplasty to discuss your goals.

Answer: Open vs closed technique Rhinoplasty Thank you for your question. In my practice, I prefer a technique called Piezo when we use a device that emits high-speed sound waves to very small cutting and shaving tip inserts. Using ultrasonic waves during the surgery is considered extremely safe and with this technique, you will have minimal bruising and swelling. Therefore, healing time is extremely short, and the process is very comfortable. Best wishes.
