I have had several tattoo artist come to me for their SMP work. I am sure with training, a tattoo artist can do it. However, they would need the special instrument, needle, and pigment to make it work. Tattoo artist can't give you local anesthesia for a pain free experience.
Some clinics use their own colors. Each clinic is different. SMP is basically trying to match what a closely shaved hair may look like.
SMP pigment used can be the same or different than inks used for body tattoos. Not all SMP ink is the same. Each clinic has their own proprietary ink. In other words, it is not the same. Thus, the results are not the same.
It depends on who is doing them. In general we advise patients that they will need three sessions spaced out one week apart. I have heard others try to do this in one session. Our focus is go slow and do it right.
