Will my breastfeed of a 19 month-old be hurt by a 20% Salicylic Acid peel?

I am interested in having a professional Dermalogica Peel that contains 20% Salicylic Acid. Is this contraindicated for breastfeeding mothers because the acid turns into aspirin in the breast milk? Thank you!

We have very little information on this type of activity.  For this reason you are advised not to have these types of services while breast feeding.  When you baby is fully weaned it will be safe to have cosmetic services.

This is a really good question and not an uncommon one either. I think that your perspective will be well served in viewing this event with regard to risks and benefits. The risks for the procedure you propose in the setting of breastfeeding are unknown as there are ethical boundaries in obtaining such information through evidence based studies. The benefits are standard and limited for a light chemical peel. Given the unknown versus a small gain that can be obtained at a later time - I would recommend that you revisit having a chemical peel after you have completed breast feeding.Be healthy and be well,James M.
