About a week ago I had Lipo done on my abdomen, thighs and upper arms. My doctor told me not to smoke cigarettes after surgery as the nicotine will constrict blood flow and effect the overall healing (I don't smoke cigarettes anyways). My question is would smoking pure marijuana do anything to jeopardize the healing of my lipo? How soon after would be safe to start again?

Answer: Smoking pot after liposuction Other than stimulating the appetite, which could potentially lead to weight gain, I see no reason why you could not engage in some marijuana use if it is appropriate and, I suppose, legal where you are. Inhaling any form of smoke causes damage to our body, including increasing the risk for lung cancer and buildup of carbon monoxide. The famous singer Bob Marley, who was a big fan of smoking marijuana, died of lung cancer. The total amount of smoke inhaled by moderate marijuana users is quite small in relation to cigarette smokers. A safer alternative is oral consumption. It's always a good idea to check things out with your surgeon as well.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
