Tear trough lines under fluorescent light? Fillers or normal? (Photos)

Hi I had tear trough over 3 month ago , it’s done amazing to fill out the deep hollows that i had but now i don’t know if it’s just over analysing If something is there or it’s always been there. So under fluorescent light I can see these shadows but in normal light I can’t see them. First picture is before tear trough filler so you can see the extent of the hollows, second pic is my eyes now in normal light and the third is the kind of shadow I see under flourescent light. Is this normal? Am i just noticing it now because I’m fixed on that area? I don’t know if it’s always been there, if it is normal or causedby filler. Just To note, i can’t feel anything, it just feels flat when i touch the under eye area. Thanks in advance

What you’re describing is actually something I hear quite often after tear trough filler, especially in patients who had significant hollowing corrected and are now more closely observing the area.

First, it’s important to step back and look at one key detail you mentioned: in normal lighting, everything looks smooth and improved, and you’re only noticing shadows under fluorescent light. That distinction is very important.

Fluorescent lighting is one of the most unforgiving types of light for the under-eye area. It creates hard overhead shadows and contrast that exaggerate even normal anatomy, including:

Natural orbital contours
Skin thickness variations
The transition between the lower eyelid and cheek
Even subtle facial asymmetries that were always there

So in many cases, what you’re seeing is not a filler issue, but simply light catching natural anatomy in a harsher way now that the deep hollow has been corrected.

Another important point is timing—you are 3 months post-treatment, which is right in the phase where filler has already settled and integrated. If there were a true overcorrection, irregularity, or lumpiness, you would typically feel it or see it consistently across all lighting conditions—not only under fluorescent lighting.

The fact that:

You cannot feel anything
The area feels smooth and flat to touch
It looks good in normal lighting
And the concern appears only in specific lighting

…strongly suggests this is more about light reflection and normal periorbital anatomy becoming more noticeable after correction, rather than a problem created by the filler itself.

There is also something very common that happens psychologically after tear trough treatment: once a major concern is improved, the brain naturally starts focusing on smaller shadows or subtle asymmetries that were always present but previously hidden by volume loss. This is something I see frequently, and it doesn’t mean anything has gone wrong.

In short, nothing in your description sounds concerning for filler complication. What you’re noticing under fluorescent lighting is very likely a combination of normal orbital anatomy + lighting exaggeration + increased visual awareness of the area after successful correction.
