Filler around nose - Any benefits? (Photos)

Hi is there a benefit to filling around the nostrils as marked in pic #2? I don’t believe this is the nasolabial fold but i notice a shadow or line here and wondering if this gets filler sometimes.

The grooves at the sides of the base of the nose are known as the alar grooves or alar Creases. They are the topmost portions of the smile lines and are very often treated with HA fillers in order to diminish the cosmetically troubling shadowing that appears there. Filler treatment of this region should not be left to the hands of novice, inexperienced injectors, since important blood vessels are located there and the infection of the filler must be placed deeply at the right level to avoid advertise reactions. You would be wise, therefore, to make sure to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist filler injection expert. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi! Great question—and you’re absolutely right, that area isn’t the classic nasolabial fold. What you’re noticing is more of a shadow around the alar base (next to the nostrils), and it’s something we do treat in certain cases.

A small, very precise amount of filler can sometimes help soften that shadow, but it’s a delicate area, so it has to be done conservatively to keep everything looking natural.

In many cases, that shadow is actually related to midface volume loss or support, so treating the cheeks or surrounding areas often gives a more balanced and natural result rather than placing filler directly there.

Thank you for sharing your photos and pointing out the area of concern. The shadow or line you’re noticing around your nostrils is not typically the nasolabial fold—it’s usually a subtle depression or volume loss along the alar base and lateral nose area. This area can sometimes create a shadow that makes the nose or upper lip look slightly uneven or the face appear a bit tired.

Filling this area with a small amount of dermal filler can help soften the shadow, create smoother transitions, and subtly lift the surrounding skin. It’s important that injections here are done very carefully and conservatively, because the area is delicate and too much filler can affect the natural shape of the nostrils or make the area look puffy.

Not everyone needs filler in this spot—sometimes improving volume in the cheeks or upper lip can also reduce the shadow naturally. But yes, when done thoughtfully, filler around the nostril “crease” can provide a subtle brightening effect and smooth the lines you’re noticing.
