Hi, I had liposuction on my mons pubis area in October 2022. There is still what looks like a line of swelling in the area, if I do a self LD massage the area reduces. Will this eventually go away? Thanks
Answer: Managing Swelling in the Mons Pubis Area Post-Liposuction Hi brave396101, First and foremost, I appreciate you sharing your concerns, history, and photographs related to the swelling in your mons pubis area post-liposuction. It's reassuring to note that when you apply lymphatic massage, you observe a reduction in the mons. This suggests that a significant portion of the observed fullness is indeed swelling, and with the right interventions and time, it's likely to subside. Professional lymphatic massage can be particularly beneficial in aiding the reduction of post-operative swelling. Given its effectiveness for you, I'd recommend undergoing these massages two or three times a week. Additionally, wearing a firm compression garment can further facilitate the reduction of swelling. To optimize results, you might also consider incorporating foam or a board beneath the compression garment, which can aid in uniformly flattening the area. Remember, healing timelines can vary among individuals, and while it might seem prolonged, the body can take its time to fully recover. Your proactive approach with lymphatic massages and considering compression will aid in your journey. Thank you for reaching out with your question. Best wishes as you continue your post-surgical healing journey. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Swelling after liposuction. Swelling after liposuction can persist for several months, and it's not uncommon for some areas to appear swollen or irregular during the healing process. Self-massage, as you mentioned, can help reduce swelling and improve lymphatic drainage. In many cases, residual swelling should gradually subside over time as your body continues to heal. However, healing timelines can vary from person to person, and it's essential to maintain open communication with your plastic surgeon who performed the procedure. I hope this helps, best of luck !

Answer: Liposuction results At 11 months, your results have been fine. I’ll look for quite a while and you’re no longer swollen. These are the results of your procedure. Massage does not change liposuction outcomes. Contour issues after liposuction of the mons pubis are often related to abdominal skin laxity, especially in the women who had previous pregnancies or significant weight loss. If you pull up on your lower abdominal skin until it’s under tension, see if this improves your contour, if it does, then that tells you how much skin laxity is contributing to contour in that part of your body. Alternatively, follow up with the surgeon who did the procedure or get in person a second opinion consultations from other plastic surgeons in your community. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
