Redness and small pimples above top lip - how can I treat this? (Photo)

Question

Hi, I’m looking for advice on how to get rid of the redness around my lips, mainly my top lip. I’ve had this for as long as I can remember and I don’t know whats caused it or how to treat it. It isn’t sore or irrated in anyway. It’s like normal skin, just red. I often get small pimples around my lips and I’m unsure if this is related but it does make it look worse. Even when there are no pimples its still red. I’m wondering if any laser treatments would help. Thanks

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser.  Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads can seriously improve surface sun damage and UV related pigmentation. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

Good question, if it has been there for a long time, I would seek out at MedSpa that also does Functional Medicine to run some labs and find out where that inflammation is coming from. It could be a mild chronic infection, so while a medical laser like Aerolase will kill local pathogens and reduce inflammation at the upper lip, you will also want to make sure you are addressing the inflammation in a comprehensive and holistic way.
