Is it safe to have IPL treatment the upper lip if I have dental crowns on my front teeth?

I have four front porcelain dental crowns. I want to use IPL on my upper lip, but remember it making my nerves/teeth feel sensitive last time I tried. Is it safe to treat upper lip with IPL whilst having dental crowns and if it is safe, how can I reduce the sensitive feeling?
