Ive heard textured implants are more likely to cause inflammation and higher immune response is this true?

Question

I'm getting textured breast implants tomorrow, I have been tossing and turning over smooth or textured but my surgeon recommended textured as it's over the muscle you won't see rippling as much and reduces chance of capsule contractor. I like the idea of not getting capsule contractor as easily as smooth. But I've heard textured harvests more bacteria and causes inflammation because it rubs since it's rough not smooth. Once the capsule seals it surely it, it shouldn't rub and cause inflammation?

Dear amylouise23,
there have been numerous studies on the safety and efficacy of silicone breast implants. The FDA has approved them to be safe and breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the United States every year. Implants are much different than they used to be with rigorous testing and cohesive gel. I can't tell you how happy my breast augmentation patients have been with their implants.
I would recommend a consult with a plastic surgeon to go over all of your concerns. Saline implants are also a perfectly good option if you are still concerned and are less expensive.

The risk is still low, but textured have a shorter lifespan than smooth.  Also, the textured are not as soft and do not move as much as the smooth.  there are some advantages and some disadvantages to this.  Good luck with your surgery.
