Hello, and thank you for your question. Based on your photo, it looks like you have a weak chin, and anyone with a recessive chin that is not in balance with the rest of their face may be a candidate for a chin implant. Surgeons can use silicone implants, which can easily be customized to create the ideal shape and additionally, should you wish to have the procedure reversed in the future, silicone implants can be easily removed. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with a reputable board-certified facial plastic surgeon. Your surgeon can do a proper evaluation, use digital photography to show projected results, and ensure the best possible outcome.
A formal evaluation would be needed to determine what's best. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, so we perform a non-surgical chin augmentation treatment with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill as well as Sculptra are injected into the area, improving the overall appearance of the lower face and balancing the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline and improve the chin crease.Implants are still a great option once you are 100% positive that you are ready for a permanent enhancement. I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert; our practice is located right here in Los Angeles. Best, Dr. Emer
Dear Adventurous420244,it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photo, it looks like you would benefit from chin implant. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
The question is not whether you can have a chin implant procedure but whether you would see it as of aesthetic benefit and, if so, how much augmentation do you refer. This is where the role of computer imaging is useful and is what you need to do next to determine if chin augmentation is for you.
I think you should get a consultation with an oral surgeon. On your profile your lower lip has significant more forward projection than your upper lip. This indicates you may have an underbite.Getting a proper facial skeletal assessment is probably not a bad idea.Plastic surgeons with craniofacial training should be able to help you as well.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
It sounds like you are a good candidate for a genioplasty. This is a permanent procedure that allows us to pretty much put your chin in whatever position you like. You will most likely have chin ptosis after an implant removal, but a genioplasty would resolve that. It is a fairly common practice...
The capsule will not resorb. Typically capsules in this area are pretty thin. Medpore implants are porous with ingrowth of tissue and can be more challenging to remove. You should see something resembling long-term results by about six weeks and after three months you probably will not see...
Late infections are exceedingly rare for chin implants. Solid silicone implants are generally easy to remove but porous implants can be difficult. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
